I'm glad I didn't tell the kids their cat was dead.

Because he is not. I found him this morning and coaxed him back up to the house.

I even had most of a post written tellong the world that our cat was dead. Barring actually having a cat corpse to prove it – I had enough circumstantial evidence to make my case: I found a blood-droplet trail a couple of evenings ago; the cat food had not been touched for a couple of days; and also, I had not seen Bob (yes, his full name is Bob Cat) since before finding the blood. Obviously, something had gone terribly wrong.

Heh. I guess cats really do have 9 lives.

I felt so bad for Bob, I let him hang out in my house this afternoon. Bob is an outside cat, but it was clear he needed a little down time. It looks like he was happy to have returned:

Cats.

When he adopted us this past Fall, I resisted fully bringing him into my “circle of trust”:

“But the fact is, Greg, with the knowledge you’ve been given, you are now on the inside of what I like to call… ‘the Byrnes family circle of trust.’ I keep nothing from you, you keep nothing from me… and round and round we go.” -Jack Byrnes (Robert De Niro), Meet the Parents

There were several reasons for my resistance:

  • He is a tad-bit nippy. But only whne shooing him out of the house he is generally not allowed inside of.
  • The money (de-worming, “fixing”, food, etc…)
  • The responsibility. C’mon, it’s enough effort keeping my humans alive.
  • The love and subsequent pain of death.
Be that as it may, the good-natured cat won our hearts He was named and fed a can of tuna. He gets dry cat food now. The “royal treatment” is short-lived around these parts. He is a good cat… very affectionate, but a litte aloof. I don’t know if it’s due to the fact he is a “guy” or that he is wild. I think he acts “aloof” to make us crazy… does he love us, doesn’t he love us?
I suppose I have let him into my “circle of trust” after all. I mean, I did let him laller all over my couch. Lucky cat.

I have a cat that looks just like yours, want her? Don’t let it in the house, ours sprays or pees (I can’t tell the difference) everywhere. She also scratched me a something fierce recently. I think I’d have to contribute to a therapy fund for my girls if the cat disappeared. It might be worth it.

I’m a huge cat person and mine always behave impeccably. They are totally trainable.

Bob looks like a kitten? Super cute. Male orange tabbies are notoriously love buckets. That’s what my Zing-cat is.

    Glad he’s alive :-)

  4. I can’t even tell you how many pets we went through as kids. Now…I can take them or leave them. Although the older our dog gets, the more I love her. I am totally with you on the money, responsibility, etc., etc. what with the feeding and such… It’s a good thing the schools serve lunch ‘cuz otherwise my kids would be real hungry most days. You can just leave my mom of the year award at the door.

  5. I’ve just digged this post, to share the story with my friends. I’m glad that he’s alive.

Am I in your circle of trust. Because if I am, Bob can’t come in. I think I’m allergic to cats.

“I think he acts “aloof” to make us crazy… does he love us, doesn’t he love us?” – I used to be a cat person, but the two cats we have now have made me a non-cat person. They get into everything! They’re 5 years-old too! I’m also not a dog person. We have a really great dog, as far as dogs go, but still, they just annoy me. My son got a rabbit recently and I’ve decided that I am now a rabbit person.

That is weird, some of post disappeared! Maybe that is what happens when a fussy baby helps you type. :-) I quoted part of your post in my previous comment to say that I loved that line, what a crack up!

    Well, Well, Well,
Cats LOVE ME!!!!! I don’t mind cats..they are not my favorite…DOGS RULE!!!!, but I could NEVER MISTREAT ONE! I must say that Matthew is terribly ALLERGIC…goes into INSTANT ASTHMA attack when he comes into contact with them…..so good thing it is an outside cat…but….he isn’t there much anyway…but he and Elizabeth SURE WANT to come and visit all of you!
    STILL…..DOGS RULE!!!!!!!

I hope I’m on the inside of the circle of trust! ;)

I have two cats, both indoors (yes, along with a dog). My girl is aloof & nippy. My boy is as sweet as can be! Both play rough however. You have to watch those sharp little teeth & claws. Ouch!

Heh, heh. “Circle of Trust.” I am not one for Ben Stiller movies, but that one had it’s moments. As I am sure your cat does.

I just want to say that Bob Cat is the most unspeakable amazing name for a feline I’ve ever heard.
