Of all the things that needed to be done…
Cleaning under my bed wasn’t one of them.
However…
Do you ever find yourself so stressed about all the things on your list that you end up doing something that no one will ever notice? Like, not even YOURSELF?
The effort makes no progress toward a deadline, but it just feels like you checked something off that list?… It feels so good when you are done… Kind-of like how it feels after a good, long cry or run? Sometimes I cry when I run…
I digress…
That’s what’s been happening to me lately.
2 weeks ago it was the pantry…
then the laundry room…
And yesterday – UNDER MY BED.
Because that makes it look like I keep a clean home – because when people come over they look under one’s bed, right?
I had no idea I was an empty shoe-box hoarder. TEN shoe boxes. And a baby Croc.
One Croc, that was Lucy’s… 3 years ago *blink blink*
In addition to the bevy of empty shoe boxes I found 2 dozen hair ties… And… A PAIR OF REALLY CUTE SHOES I HAD FORGOTTEN ABOUT!!!
*can I get a whut-whut?*
{I took a picture of only one shoe because the nail poish on the big toe of my other foot was in disrepair. I decided a one-footed woman with 5 painted toenails looked better than 2 feet with 9 painted toenails. Unrelated, I am not known for my practical reasoning…}
So. The nethers of my bed is clean. It is vacuumed and purged of boxes. I now have one Caboodle with 80′s jewelry, and 2 shoe boxes – one keeping a pair of boots and the other is empty. Why an empty box?
I have no idea.
Baby steps.
So… what do you keep under YOUR bed???

Oh, there is nothing under my bed. It is clean and vacuumed all the time.
Yes, I AM perfect.
On an unrelated note, please don’t look in my closet.
I tried to clean under my bed but the dust bunnies started growling at me and I got scared so I game up.
But totally cute shoes!
Well, and usually my closest is in decent shape. But not today… so don’t look there – and NEVER in my kitchen sink!
There is nothing under my bed. I’m completely OCD about organizing. Everything else in my life is a hot mess though. And my shoes…are in the garage, in those clear plastic bins from The Container Store. I should do a post about my random garage shoe storage one of these days.
Two giant ziploc bags filled with summer clothes and a gigundo ziploc bag filled with my husbands old tshirts that he can’t bear to part with, but which I will probably throw away if he doesn’t get home on time today. Also, a dust bunny ranch. And maybe my wedding ring. Maybe.
And hair ties. And possibly a plastic dinosaur. That actually has better than average odds.
Why would you ask me such a question???
You found shoes! It is not purposeless to clean obscure places that no one would notice. If not for those clean outs, there would be lonely shoes and hair ties across the world.
I totally do those weird organizing things when the obvious things that need to be reorganized and are calling my name. But I don’t know where to start. So I just start elsewhere.
Under my bed there are storage bins – one with all my good leather handbags, snuggly sleeping in their dust bags, one with my shoes, one with all my sweatshirts (which, I must say, I don’t think I’ve worn since I moved here). Also two shoeboxes (for keeping Uggs tidy) and a duffle bag full of purses that I forgot were there.
I think I’ve mentioned this house has no closets…
I think the only thing holding my bed up is the dust and treasures under it, so yes, I need to clean under there, but I’m a little leery of what it might mean to my rest!
Also, I’ve learned to keep at least one empty shoebox around at all times now thanks to the inevitable fact I’ll open my email the morning after recycling any and all boxes to find a missive from a teacher informing me that one of the kids needs a complete diorama of a forest or a model of the Lincoln Memorial by the next day. Trust me, I’ve actually gone out and purchased shoes just so homework requiring a shoebox can get done around here, and they’ve not been as cute and kicky as those sandals!
We are trying to sell our home, so in short, EVERYTHING is under our bed.
Either there, or in the fridge:)
Just found your blog. Sooo I am going back through your posts and you will probably get a million comments from me tonight!
I keep suitcases under my bed. 2 to be exact and dog bones! Lucy (my chihuahua) likes to be in private when she chews her bones and I really HATE stepping on those dern things!! It works for us =)
