Mom’s Famous Homemade Hot Cocoa Recipe [vlog]
I grew up drinking hot cocoa mix that my mom made herself. We LOVED it.
I had forgotten about that mix until recently and decided to whip up a batch and see what the kids thought.
TOTAL WIN.
And since I want YOU to win in the kitchen with your families… I thought I’d share the recipe with you. Just in time for cold weather and the season of giving gifts in jars and whathaveyou.
And mom, thank you for taking the time to home-make our hot cocoa and I’m sorry if you also choked on clouds of powdered milk. I see your sacrifice and I thank you for doing that for your children. You are a saint.

Oh my gosh, MY mom has a recipe for hot cocoa that is similar (except I don’t know if it has nesquik, might just be the cocoa powder and heaps of powdered sugar)
Talk about the resultant kitchen mess from that… Meh
Oh, and my Sam (7) who was watching over my shoulder said “she’s funny”
Then “how come you haven’t made Mimi’s recipe for US?”
(I don’t know if they even sell powdered milk here. Mars. Remember?)
If they DO sell it – it is probably EXPENSIVE because – my gosh powdered milk is EXPENSIVE.
P.S. I love Sam
hehehehehehehe … I have never understood the american fear of kitchen scales … Do they not sell them?!?
I was going to make tree biscuits again this year … but I have TOO MANY jars in my kitchen, and we are moving in the summer, so hot chocolate jars is def a plan! Thanks for this, and the tears of joy from watching your video
I actually have one. A REALLY good one. I just get all confused and also… lazy
Also, so glad your tears were of joy!
Fabulous!
Anytime I “cook” (for lack of a better word), I pretty much just eye-ball it. With everything.
Now I don’t feel so alone.
It’s like art for the kitchen!
I am quite sure that if I had the time to look up “adorable” in the dictionary I would find a picture of You. Thank you for sharing your delightfulness with us. Made my day!!
((hug))
YOU. *shoulders up for a nudge and blushes*
I just tried to leave this comment….to no success. (I think.) But if you discover I posted twice…nevermind that! Haha!
What I said, was that my mom also made homemade hot cocoa for us when my 3 older brothers and I were growing up. It made a massive amount. She used a large plastic bowl likes yours…only it happened to be a horrible yellow color. (Like the color of a newborn’s first week of poop when being nursed. Aww…makes me wanna have another.)
We didn’t mind the nasty colored bowl. (Which she still has and uses…and is still looking similarly awful.) She made a huge batch around Christmastime…and it lasted most of the winter. (Which is impressive considering there were four of us kids…and we lived in the Snow Belt of PA!)
Thanks for the reminder. I am totally making this for my four little ones too!! Have a blessed day Miss Jenny! =)
Your comment made it- YAY!!!
And YAY for making hot cocoa for your littles – fun at Vanessa’s!!! <3
You are hilarious! Loved the powdered milk cloud! Thanks for the laugh this morning!
Ah… love you Karen
Put an UMBRELLA in it and I’m there
. Looks like it will TRAVEL well. *sends subliminal messages to jenny*
Subliminal message received
So what is this powdered milk? Why can’t you just use regular milk? I am so confused.
It’s a powdered mix… so you can store it an whatnot
Or give as gifts or just have all to yourself. Add hot water to make it hot and drinky. No hot water means – not HOT cocoa. Just dry cocoa
Jenny, you made me smile today. Thank you.
I love you, friend <3
yummy!! thnx for sharing…we shall be warm and cozy now all winter long, can add this to coffee for a nice lil’ mocha, no??!!
Jo… Um… YES! I actually had footage of that, but it didn’t make the cut. Add, add, add to coffeeeeee!
Thanks, I’m all set to make a bunch! you are very entertaining
Hi Diane! I am thrilled to “meet” you… hope to maybe see this recipe played out in your pretty photography someday…
