Life and Death

I sit in sadness because of death… sadder because it’s a child.

And as I mourn the loss, life keeps rolling, rolling – bills, papers, decisions, errands, mealtime…

I sort through the growing mound of papers on my desk and find the card I bought for a dear friend. I am late in sending it – she announced her pregnancy in November. What a blessing to be writing words of wonder and celebration. I feel honored to be a friend who squealed with glee on the phone the day she called with the news.

And as I write, my heart shares the deepest sorrow and supreme joy – at exactly the same moment… one woman is growing a new life in her womb, and the other… I just can’t bring myself to write the words.
