A Beginning Blogger Gets Her First "Comment"
We have a new blogger in the house.

My daughter, Olivia received a blog for her 8th birthday.
Right now she has a hankerin’ for widgets… She wants a bit more *bling* on her blog it seems.
It’s fun… sharing *blogness* with my girl. She has recently been asking things like, “How do I know what to write? What do I write? How do I get ideas?”
I tell her, “Embrace or inner alter-ego. Watch life. Write about what you see, what you talk about, what you feel… Write stories that you make-up! Just like you do on paper… Draw pictures, take pictures… But mom has to check it before you post.”
Tonight we talked about using pictures… I told her about Flickr and Piknic. And as I am explaining her rules for picture posting, I am realizing how much her little blog is going to cost me — in time. But it’s worth it… to guide and bond over a shared love.
And it is simply delightful to me to listen, to watch her think about writing. Publishing.
But then real-life redirects my Utopia to back to Reality:
My husband overheard a conversation between Olivia and a peer. A conversation that has happened to me more times than I can count. A conversation that used to put me in the defensive position. Olivia had just met a little girl. They were trying to “break the ice”, find common ground… Olivia shared:
I have a blog.
The other little girl answered:
Oh. I don’t have time for that.
I am not even kidding.
Luckily, Olivia is like a bird without feathers. She never gets ruffled. OK, not NEVER, but she’s not the kind of kid to get torn down easily… and lemme tell ya she doesn’t get that from her mother.
My words of comfort? “Welcome, my darlin’. This is just the beginning… Come… let’s blog about this.”

How precious is that! I follow a few blogs of young pre-teen gals and they rock my world some times. I am sure she will have no problem thinking of things to write about. I think her life may be more exciting at the age of 8 sometimes!
LOL! Seriously? She said “I don’t have time for that!”
That is crazy. Blogging helps us. It is a form of therapy.
I say YAY for your daughter!
i wonder if she will like to post videos on her blog like her mama!!
haha, that’s great. hope she enjoys it, i’ve been considering the same thing, but severely locked down for my son to help him work on his creative writing.
That is so incredibly cute!! Good for her!!
How soon until Olivia has an alter ego that’s besties with J-Bling?
that is so awesome!!
OH SO SWEET! I just checked out Olivia’s super-cute blog, and now I need to find out when I can visit her grandparents and sit on their super-comfy couch. That’s not weird, is it?
Adorable blog! Happy birthday to Olivia! And about that comment…I guess claws come in all sizes, eh? Why must we constantly justify blogging? How amazing.
Hubby designed her blog too? He’s a talent. Adorable! And your daughter is fabulous. Just like mom.
Blogging is like Therapy.
If you don’t have time for it, you’ll be worse for the wear later.
Yup. Good stuff!
Brava Olivia!
