It’s National Teen Driver Safety Week, y’all.

And I have partnered with IKnowEverything (a program of the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility (Responsibility.org) to help spread the word… DRINKING AND DRIVING IS BAD. I have been paid by responsibility.org to help spread the word.

OK.

Now that we have that out of the way… plus I am pretty sure we are all on the same page when it comes to knowing that drinking and driving is bad… NOW WHAT?

Teen drivers simply knowing that drinking and driving is not enough… teen drivers simply knowing that distracted driving is dangerous is not enough… to keep our teens safe on the road.

As I mentioned in the video, the IKnowEverything program conducted game show-style events at a geographically representative sample of high schools nationally. During this time, the program asked students questions about driving scenarios. Forty-three percent of the students reported wishing they had more knowledge on how to handle different driving situations when they first started driving.

Taking that information further, the importance parents talking with their teens become clear – as is WHAT parents and teen drivers should be talking about is clear. Parents shouldn’t trust that just because their kid KNOWS they shouldn’t ride with a driver who has been drinking doesn’t mean the know how to avoid it.

The IKnowEverything survey results revealed why conversations between parents and teens are important:
