What To Expect: My Second Gum Graft

You could probably care less about my gum graft.

At this writing I am on Day One into the healing process of the first of two.

The thing is, I am consumed by it.

Ever since my dentist told me a long time ago that I needed TWO MORE (I had one about 4 years ago) it has lived at the back of my mind.

The one I had 4 years ago was AWFUL. Well, the healing process was awful. You can see my video about it here.

I was so young back then.

Aaaanywho. In the following video I share what is different about the one I just underwent.

Now, don’t let this discourage you from getting your own if you’ve been told you need one. Let it prepare you, as with my first one I was not prepared.

But good gum health is important and as crazy as people think I am for doing it, I like my teeth and want to keep them and I would rather go throw temporary pain now to be able to avoid greater and longer pain later. Because I hear it can be awful.

Plus, I have an excellent dentist and have complete trust in this guy that has been overlooking all of the teeth in my family for probably as many years as I have fingers. Or close to it.

I am 26 hours into my recovery and doing great. Sans some jaw discomfort… the taste of a little blood from time to time, a bit of hunger (or a lot) (I’m drinking smoothies and juices, but I want orange chicken), and I really, really, really, really, really, really want to take this dog-gone retainer/guard out of my mouth. Like, baaaaad.

We’ll see what the next few days hold. As you heard in the video, the area of gum much less, and the process was different. Hoping that means a less painful recovery. The big pain from my last graft started about day 4 into healing. So, I am feeling optimistic now, but I have that last experience that keeps verping back into my memory.

I promise I won’t go on and on and on about it.

Ish.
