I like the word eclectic.
It’s a creative way of verbally cushioning the edges… or like knocking down a wall in a corner.
Nobody puts baby in a corner.

Fancy, but thrifty?
VINTAGE: I would say my home style falls into a “vintage eclectic” style category. My own “vintage” ranges from pieces specifically chosen because I do adore the vintage look, but it also may or may not be another way to say, “I have the perfect spot for that hand-me-down piece of furniture.” Vintage is part style choice, and part thrift.
ECLECTIC: This is where things get unpredictable. From pairing stainless steel accents on an old dresser, or hanging a gallery of simple, straight-edge black frames in the dining room paired in a room with a white washed, reclaimed wood table… being able to mix and match with pieces regardless of era can add certain charm and definite personality.
One of my favorite corners in my home is totes Vintage Eclectic… an old piano, a wooden candle holder showing off a ceramic owl, contemporary art given and created by one of my husband’s former art school instructors, and a sunburst mirror reminiscent of the 1970’s.
However… many other spaces in my home could use a little eclectic love. My style has changed a little over the years. I have always loved vintage/country/reclaimed furniture and pieces, but over the last several years I have found my decorating eye looking at other styles… from pops of color to metal pieces. I like adding contemporary (even industrial) decor to give a little edge to my collection of traditional pieces.
And I am also so drawn to a brighter decorative theme lately…

In the above collage I featured several Sauder pieces. I found a photo of that cute chandelier (but could not find the maker), and that distressed metal letter I is mine. I got it at a boutique shop, somewhere. That red I is so much fun to design around!
