The Seattle Danskin 2008 Triathlon

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you were wanting to register for this event… don’t bother. It. Is. Closed.

Those who are not familiar with this local phenom… may not “get it”. Every year the registration window gets smaller and smaller and smaller… The first time I registered (2001), it closed in a month or two. In 2003 I think it was a month or so… 2006 – a couple of weeks, and last year it was 2 days. This year – only hours. Next thing you know it’ll be like trying to get tickets for Pink Floyd or the Super Bowl. It’s crazy. It’s awesome. I think every woman should do it. I know most women could. It changed my life.

Did I register this year? Nah. I’ve done it 4 times. **huffs on nails, buffs on shirt**

Thought I’d give someone else a chance. **huffs on nails, buffs on shirt**

The only bummer is I wanted to try to break the top 100 mark in swim finishers in this particular event. I landed at exactly 100 last year. No biggie though. My training buddy (since she’s a girl, should I call her budd-ess???) and I decided we had BTDT. We are going to try a new venue, a longer distance (Olympic Tri), with fewer competitors. We’re into foolishness like that – 3.5 hours of straight foolishness… maybe 4 hours…

Did you know there were 3,499 finishers in the 2007 Seattle Danskin? I finished 247 (*huff and buff*). Hey, it’s my blog. You already know this is all about me. Anyway, 3499 – that’s alotta gals swimming, biking and running; and last year it got a bit irritating to jockey for a safe pass – or allow a safe pass. Of course I did most of the passing… yeah… yeah… that’s how it went.

Yay for you! Huff and Buff all you want girlfriend! :-)

You know, I have always considered trying a Triathlon. I can do a 5K – not in any tremendous time mind you – but I love biking and swimming too and it sounds like it would be fun and challenging. Maybe someday!

    Hi Jenny,

I handle the PR for the TREK Women’s Triathlon Series and the race is coming to Seattle in July. Registration has just opened, however, so I am trying to spread the word to women of Washington to register now! Maggie Sullivan from Danskin has come over to TREK and has brought her people with her, including Sally Edwards, and the race is better than ever. I was hoping I could email you the press release and some information about this year’s triathlon since you have expressed interest in Danskin’s events in the past.

Please email me at your convenience and let me know if this is something you would be interested in discussing. I know how great the power of the blog can be and I would love to have something about TREK posted on yours!

    Thanks so much,
    Anne Demetrio
