*****

I volunteered to help out with the children’s choir at church – for their Christmas performance. We had rehearsal yesterday. There is this adorable little girl in the choir… I think she is in kindergarten… the smallest child in the choir. She was to lead the group offstage at the end of the performance. I kept saying, “Now ‘YOU, HONEY’ go this way…”. I could not remember her name. I finally broke down:

Me (bending to reach her eye-level): Honey. I am so sorry, but I can’t remember your name…

Little girl: Wolf

Me, to this very adorable, very sweet, very girly little girl: I’m sorry. What?

Adorable little girl: Wolf

Me, stuttering: Did you?… I… uh… What???

Little girl ooozing adorable out of every cute pore: I said my name is Wolf. I changed my name to Wolf. *sweetest. smile. ever.*

Me, desperately trying to keep a straight face: OH… Alright… Wolf… I need you to… …

I spoke to her mom this morning and said: I asked your daughter her name yesterday and she told me her name is…

Her mom: Wolf?

Me: Yup

The mom: She either goes by Wolf or Snake. She has a very independent spirit.

Wolf…I like that name. But it’s also the name of an American Gladiator. And that Wolf is annoying. Wouldn’t want to be associated with him…

  2. Kathleen says:

    I think Wolf is genius!

I changed my name once but not until I was 11 and then I tried *Rusty* cause of my red hair (I know – not original) but I had no stick-to-it-ness and it went away.

That Twitter post is the best!! My tummy hurts from giggling!

Congrats on the 5.25 dreadmill run! Two days left! Is your goal 100?

  3. D... says:

LOL, Wolf! Reminds me of the time my daughter would only go by Scooby & called me Shaggy. We could only get her to follow directions by asking if she’d do it for a Scooby snack. Ah, good times. ;)

Giggling on the twitter Christmas Story!

  4. Honey Mommy says:

That is hilarious! At least she chose the nickname for herself. So many parents are giving their little girls such masculine names nowadays! What are we parents of boys supposed to name our sons?

  5. shonda says:

Wolf is a child after my own heart.

  6. Musing says:

Wolf rocks! and that Christmas story twitter version kills me. LOL

  7. jubilee says:

Hee heee. My son once demanded to be called The Queen. And he’s way too young to have a discussion about what that word could entail!

  8. Michelle says:

I like Wolf’s imagination. I changed my name to Brandy when I was 7, but it didn’t stick.
I don’t think I would make a good Brandy…but I do make good Brownies:) Buh dum dum *Tchee* (symbols clanging).
    HAHAHAHA.

  9. Deb says:

My son went by Doggy for about six months when he was 4. Though he also liked to crawl on the floor and be petted. He’s better now.

I’m thinking about changing my name to Dooce. Think I can pull it off?
