Ellen Pompeo + Me = Talked on the Phone About Diaper Need

I thought that’d grab your attention.
Yes. I recently had the opportunity to chat with Ellen Pompeo on the phone, about diaper need. I, along with my fellow Every Little Bottom ambassadors had some time to welcome Ellen to the program and talk to her about why she chose to be involved.
Ellen is a new mom. She identifies with a mother’s heart… One does not need to be in a dire state to imagine the heartache and stress that a mom feels when she knows she will not have enough diapers to make it through the day… or week.
A mother’s heart not only aches for her own children, but it aches for all who have need.
No?
Our team (Every Little Bottom) is excited to have Ellen join our efforts in raising awareness about diaper need. We can write posts and tweet and facebook, and diaper-drive to our physical limits… but there are so many voices… and each voice has it’s own unique reach. News of her joining this effort excites me because she has a unique and far reach via traditional media. And I warmly welcome her heart and efforts as we all work together to raise awareness that there are probably moms out there tonight (I am writing this in the evening) that can’t sleep because they know there are only 6 diapers left before payday – 7 days away.
Here’s a clip of her on Access Hollywood… sharing in her own words:
I am getting my wheels turning as I start planning for a diaper drive or two. But you don’t have to wait to follow in anyone’s footsteps… here is a diaper drive tool kit!

Diapers are ridiculously expensive. They do not need to be. They should be a need item, available at cost. I am glad that you’ve taken this on, and I hope you can all make a difference.
Warning – Ranting to follow.
IMO, I have come to the conclusion that children are undervalued in so many ways in our society.
Think about it:
Except for pediatricians, everyone who works with children on a personal basis are way underpaid. Daycare? I paid about $3/hour, teachers earn like $45k per year, I make that as an administrative assistant (no degree, no real skills). But these people are with your kids often more than the parents. And single parents who need to work often can’t get discounted daycare, or daycare supplements, how many work places employ many working parents but don’t provide any kind of daycare opportunities at work. Or give the parents a hard time because they have to take part of a day off for a doctors appt or home w/a sick kid. Its horrid. No wonder so many kids are so screwed up, no matter how hard their parents work to build them up and feel good about themselves, SOCIETY is telling them to suck it.
Sorry, Rant off now.
