10 Things I Think Moms Should Know
Once a week I post an article in the “Mom Topics: Just for Moms” section at Type-A Mom. I should post there more often, but I haven’t been able to pull that together just yet… I try to write more meaningful stuff stuff there (stop laughing), but something happened this week that pointed my inner-writer in a different direction it’s usual direction.
My 3 year-old, Lucy… cut her own hair. Apparently there was play-dough stuck in her hair and she decided to be her own little problem solver. Yay! I am raising a problem solver! *falls on the couch*
As I pondered the content of my new post at Type-A Mom, I decided to go back to the basics and list out 10 things I think are important for moms to know. I’m kind-of like David Letterman that way…
On second thought… perhaps I am more like Napoleon Dynamite… Did you see #3? I would TOTALLY go to prom with Napoleon. I digress…
There is no research to back-up my “top-ten” list, unless you count one mother’s life-experience. *puts ice pack on head* In it I list such things as breathing, eating, aiming low and hiding the scissors. Here is an excerpt:
Hide the Scissors. No. Do not keep scissors in your home. Ever. Hiding them does not help. Children are born with a scissor-seeking GPS, and it seems that though hair from the human head is not magnetic — it actually is magnetic to the cut of a pair of scissors.

my little pumpkin did a number on her bangs once… it actually was a pretty exact lighting bolt pattern
Holy crap! My daughter did the exact same thing at about Lucy’s age! Except there was no good reason like she got something in her hair. Nope. She just found her brother’s safety scissors and chopped. I was so heartbroken. Her hair was sooo long and I had to take her to the salon and she came back with a bob! My son also cut his hair…right after I had just given him the best home haircut ever! Had to shave him bald after that!
Bloody kids.
I had things pretty easy (on the scissor front) up until now. My five year old has overcome her fear of scissors and uses them at every opportunity. She hasn’t cut her hair yet, but she handed them to her four year old brother who promptly ran to me (blades up and apart) to tattle on her. Ugh. I know the hair cutting thing is just a matter of time.
I did that to myself when I was a kid.. Hmmm even as an adult and boy when I cut my bangs then went to my girl she reemed me for touching them – so what if I cut them alittle crooked.. OOPS
Oh my gosh. That looks like a lot of hair. Bless her for giving you “material” to write about.
