World Autism Awareness Day
Today… April 2, 2010 is World Autism Awareness Day. I knew it was coming up, but honestly… I didn’t remember when.
But my friend reminded me.
I met my friend Ricardo in college. We served as R.A.s together. We goofed off on a ridiculous level… We got married. but not to each other. Like people sometimes do when they grow up… they get married, they move away, they lose touch… We lost touch, Ricardo and I.
But through the gift of blogging, we somehow reconnected. I can’t recall how that happened. Then Facebook hit, and he accepted my friend request (or did accept his?)… and the next thing I know it was 1993 again, but instead of goofing off in Simmons or Smith Hall, we taunted our coeds over the halls of our Facebook. We even ran… or are running for Something. We have no idea what, but we have 10 officers and 180 people on Facebook backing up our Gomez-Ingram Administration.
Pretty much… were I a guy… I’d be him. Mexican and all. He’s the man… the Vato I will never be. I luh you mang!
Ricardo and his wonderful wife, Amanda have 2 incredible kids… one has Autism – Ryan.
I hold Ricardo and Amanda in the highest regard. We live many miles away, but I have seen the effort and love they pour into raising a child with Autism. I have been touched by their honesty in their struggles, their stories of victory… their efforts to not only advocate for Ryan, but for all children with Autism.
Enter Ryan’s Artism:
Ryan’s Artism is a site set up by Ryan’s family. It’s a site with helpful links about Autism, but also Ryan… artist extraordinaire…. has set up shop! Card shop, that is! I invite you to visit Ryan’s Artism. Learn a little about Autism on World Autism Awareness Day… Learn a little about Ryan – he even has a Facebook fan page
And be sure to visit Ryan’s card shop!
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Autism Speaks.

Jenny,
Thank you!!! If I was a girl I would be you!!! If we lived closer we would be dangerous! Oh, our poor spouses!!! “We goofed off on a ridiculous level…” is an understatement!!!

Thanks for the link, Jenny. My son is also on the autism spectrum. He’s now a senior in college… where has the time gone?
Just ordered some of Ryan’s cards online… awesome!
there is still no permament solution for autism. we just have to take good care of the kids who are suffering autism.~;,
