Sisters and the bond of love…

I love my sister. She is bolder and sassier and not older… and taller, but I’m not bitter. I like being the shorter, older sister. Every girl’s dream… Incidentally, she and my alter ego get along famously… like melted butter on warm banana bread. What? I have no idea…

My sister and I used to fight like nobody’s business back in the day. Now we just make fun of each other laugh.  We are full of compliments and kind words… and a metric a** load  dash of sarcasm. Gone are the days of our youth, when we would clean the kitchen after dinner… and end up sopping messes on the floor because we would fight over who could and would squirt each other the most torrentially with that sink-squirter-thingy. Gone are the days of putting tape down the middle of our bedroom, when my bent toward messy spaces drove her to the brink of insanity. Maybe that’s why she’s the way she is…. I digress…

Here is a picture of my beautiful sister…

No…. today, we have the pure bond of sisterly love…

In fact, would you like to read a snippet of our love… our mutual admiration? I will now let you have a peek at the inner-sanctum of our relationship. It is a special place, and you are special to be allowed in… the love, the pure love between sisters as we discuss weight… our mutual encouragement of one another as we seek to accept our bodies just the way they are:

Me: Its not my fault if you have martini belly!
Her: Listen here “Muffin Top”…

You’re swooning, aren’t you?

Keep up on the ridiculous, the insightful, the always digressive…

  1. I have two sisters….both taller….both thinner….but I got the boobs! Sometimes it pays to be first in line :)

I feel so bad for the women that don’t have a sister. Just as you said, fight and “hate” each other as kids … and an unbreakable bond as adults.

  3. I have a taller younger sister, too. She once chucked a knife at me. Sure, it was a paring knife, but still! Eh, we get along perfectly now, but I think we’re probably more the Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye version of that duet!

  4. Michelle says:

Thanks for posting that video! I LOVE that movie. Christmas is just not Christmas without White Christmas.
I have a sister. I locked her in a closet when we were younger.
She used to wipe her nose on my bed.
But we totally sing just like Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen.
    Ha!

lol, I posted about my little sister today, too! =)

You guys look alike. Sisters are so great. Me and mine fought like cats and dogs, too, when we were younger. Your post reminds me of me saying, “Daaaaddddd, she’s touching me!!!” LOL We are the best of friends today.

I’m the older taller one, and I hope my younger sister has forgiven me for making her perform Donny and Marie songs when we were kids (I, um, compelled her to do this variety show thing with me for family get togethers and, well, totally embarrassing now to think about it).

I miss your sister. It’s been so long. =(

  8. Kristin says:

Hey Jenny! I loved the post. My sister and I actually sang that song together as a spoof in college for a talent show. That brought back so many great memories-thanks!

And might I add, my girls terrorize each other, tell on one another at the drop of a hat, hurt each other, steal from each other, and on and on and on…(yeah fun stuff to deal with on a daily basis) but at the end of the day they beg to sleep together and let tell you – don’t anybody hurt their sisters or they will protect them to the end!

  10. Dumblond says:

yeah, I guess there are some advantages to having a sister. But I wouldn’t trade in my three younger brothers for anything. Think anybody messes with me? Not when they take a look at my bros!

  11. Kathleen says:

I don’t have a sister but I see the dynamic between my mom and her two younger sisters and it’s, shall we say, interesting? Challenging? Unique?

  12. D... says:

My sisters are so much younger than me that we don’t have quite the same bond. However, there were fights (which were quite silly since I’m 13 years older than the older of the 2) and lots of fun times.

Totally random, but my daughter & Bubba’s Sis’ daughter did a lip sync to this song for a drama fest. Totally adorable. It’s my favorite of them all. Sadly, I thought I was recording it and found out after the fact that I wasn’t. So sad now.

  13. Lizulfisa says:

That was an awesome post. LOVED the song. Well, I love my sis, but we had some un-love in the past. And your sis.. well, she is swell and sure had a great time at your party. You’ll always have “that” moment.

  14. God, I wish I had a photo of this like my sis. I would definitely love to show my love the same.

  15. I always wanted a sister, but I got a younger brother instead. I guess I should be glad I didn’t get a younger sister. She would have probably looked like Halle Berry.

  16. Bubba's Sis says:

I always wanted a sister just so I could have a big, feathery fan and sing this song with her. Sigh. I got a little brother. He’s pretty cool, tho.

  17. I remember the fights! But i also remember the Olympic worthy swimming routines we would make and the roller skate routines to, “Oh Mickey, you’re so fine, you blow my mind, Hey Mickey!(Did our parents even know what that song was about???) Great childhood memories of you and your sis! Would love to hear more about her! ;-)

  18. jubilee says:

    Sigh . . . it’s posts like these that makes me wish I had a sister. Younger, prettier, I don’t care . . .

  19. Mrs. F says:

I did not get a sister until I was 20 years old. She was 15 at the time. I wish we would have grown up together, because I really love the banter that goes on between sisters like you and yours. (We are more like distant friends that get to see each other once a year when she flies out from across the country.)

  20. debbie says:

I am not lucky enough to have a sister, so I am jealous of the whole experience. It always looks like so much fun.
