In Which I Wonder: How Did I Get To Here?

Not that this is a sad state of existence, but…

There are times if you take a quick snapshot of where you are in any one moment, you might find yourself asking yourself a question:

How did I get to here?

“Here” may not be bad. It may not be terribly shameful. Or shameful at all. It may be neither incredible nor bad nor good. Simply, I never considered I would be… *insert scenario here*

tampons & flip-flops

See the above picture? It is made out of neither “amazing” nor “sad” nor “awesome”. Nor interesting.

At all. Tis a simple snapshot.

But.

Sometimes you need to take a step back. Really look. Beyond one’s shopping list. Take in one’s surrounding.

How did I get to here:

  • at 8:45 on this Saturday morning
  • in a checkout line at Walmart
  • lined up behind a man in camouflage cargo pants and a Carhartt baseball hat
  • buying 2 pairs of Dickies
  • tighty-whities
  • and thermal unders

How  did I get to there? As I stood…

  • in that check-out line in Walmart
  • in my capri yoga pants, favorite OLD white (read: not so “white” anymore) long-sleeve top & white slip-on Keds
  • with unkempt hair
  • buying 2 pairs of $2.50 flips flops
  • and 2 boxes of tampons

Ah… life.

OF COURSE.

This time I didn’t end up behind “Lorrinda”, the 64 year old cat lady who is friend to all, who excitedly tells you all about the pros and cons of different cat litter. I only end up behind the Lorrindas of the world when I am buying cereal and spray glitter.

Noooooop(e). I end up behind “Garth”… when I am gearing up and preparing for cyclical Armageddon. And a flip-flop craft (pictures in a later post)…

And there stands poor “Garth”… He is probably getting ready to go catch and slay fish or preparing for a trip to see how long he can live in The Wild with nothing but a matchbox and a Swiss army knife. Oh, and also 2 pairs of Dickies, tighty-whities and thermal unders.

I guess we are all preparing for something.

OK. You getting to “there” had me in tears. Maybe that’s why you had to get there…for the laugh.
