Happy Valentine's Day. Really.

I mentioned yesterday that I am not a huge fan of Valentine’s Day. I don’t even know if “Valentine’s” should have an apostrophe. Sheesh. If it wasn’t for the glitter I think I’d shoot Cupid with his/her (yeah, another reason I don’t “get” it) own arrow. But I am actually trying to spread some love in this post, and am failing miserably. It must be the blackness of my anti-Valentine heart oozing through the tips of my fingers.

See. Can’t stop. I need to regroup. While I do, here is a love song for all my bloggy, twittery Valentines out there *swoon*

But I am not done with my gift to you, my bloggy pals! Have ya’ll heard of “linky love”. I know you have. Not only do bloggers do it for the comments, we also do it for the links/trackbacks, yes? C’mon… let’s be honest here. Well, I found a FUN site yesterday that will let me put some effort into my love for you. *****Now, onto to my story because… folks, I must bring this back around to Me*****

I haven’t always hated this commercially driven holiday. There was a time… when I didn’t have to spend my money, or time, or entertain fear of not meeting expectations…

*que dream sequence*

I remember looking out the window of my childhood home, around 5 o’clock in the evening. My dad would climb out of his truck with his telephone-man uniform on. I remember in his hands he carried 3 vases as he walked to the front door… one of roses for my mom… and two other vases. Each with a single carnation — one for me and one for my sister.

*end sequence*

I hate carnations… but friends, I did not hate carnations then. Actually, I love the memory of carnations…(but just for the record — if you must send me flowers I would prefer [in order of importance]: peonies or gerbera daisies or sweet peas or wildfower mixes or tulips/daffodils…) I actually love the idea that the carnations were my dad’s “thing”. Dad… you are the only one who can send me carnations. From you — they are bars of gold studded with diamonds. Oh my heck… what are these? *wipes cheek and gasps* Tears… Valentine tears! Friends… there must be yet a tiny soft spot on my jaded heart…

I remember feeling so special when my dad would bring us our flowers. I was a little girl who LOVED her candy, but I don’t remember the candy. I remember my dad, and his act of Valentine love for his little girl made me feel like a treasure. My dad is a precious man.

So, in an effort to channel a love-example set by my father… I got donuts for the family this morning. Talk about effort! I almost broke a sweat when I told the bakery guy, “Yeah, yeah… the the ones with the sprinkles… “

Stop it! You can have the weeds – all 3 acres of ‘em! I have only a select number of potted plants, and those flowers were not lovingly planted and sprinkled with Miracle Gro for you and your belly. I did all that for me and mine-sesses. The flowers are for beautification of my front porch, not for satiation of your appetite, nor for your gestational purposes.

When I walked out my front door this morning – it looked like horticultural massacre! Look what you did to my pretty flowers!!!

Little Deer… I’m here to tell ya, DON’T MESS WITH MAH FLOWERS!!!

Don’t you get all “Bambi-eyed” on me! I’m not falling for it. No more flowers for breakfast!

Do you hear me???

I said… !!! Do. You. HEAR. ME???!!!

Careful my four-legged friends, for if you do not heed my caution – next time I make ground turkey chili (while wearing my Confidence Apron, of course!) – I will make it with VENISON instead.

You have been warned.
