Beauty IS as Beauty is Made to Be (a.k.a Natural Beauty, Schnatural Beauty, Let’s bring Sexy Back!)

Today I want to focus on the beautiful. But not inner beauty.

Psh. *rolls eyes*

I’m talking about the beauty that MATTERS – the beauty people see in pictures you post on your FACEBOOK wall. You know you do it. You know that you would rather post NO picture than an bad picture of yourself. It’s not just me. I know how we are.

Of course natural beauty is all fine and good…

But why settle for good, when SHAZAM! or KAPOW! can be had?

Priorities people.

Don’t settle.

I crafted this post because I love you and want you to be as beautiful as Me you can possibly be…

The Mom Squad

Rollin and patrollin in the KC, yo!

*KC – Kitsap County

You are perplexed, no? Perplex no more… The Mom Squad is just your average awesome moms doing regular awesome things in typical awesome ways andwhathaveyou.

Last year, I started writing Mom On The Spot… a reader blog with the Kitsap Sun. I soon realized Mom On The Spot was not the home I had dreamed of making it. As I processed my “dreams” and my limitations I kept coming back to the fact that I didn’t want to do this alone.

Hithertheretofore…. The Mom Squad. 5 local gals, each of us connected by Kevin Bacon to some degree. Our common bonds – motherhood and blogging. Each has a unique voice. Each in a different season of motherhood. Each funny, loving, uniquely dynamic, uniquely creative, and postively gorgeous. You can tell by the picture, huh.

*Pssst* Want to know a secret? The gals in that pic are not the Mom Squad hotties. It’s a pic of me with 4 other friends, but I’m creative and knew no one would know. Except now you do. But we are taking “official” Squad pics soon, so this shot is only the “stand-in” until we can all get together and capture our combined fabulous on film. *flips hair*

Hope we don’t break the camera with our overwhelming charm and gorgeosity.

I’m serious… *deadpan stare*

The Mom Squad — Wendy of Let the Dog In, Lisa of The Blozulfog, Stacey of Oh Happy Days, Michelle of Noggin Toppers, and me.

Check us out.  Check out our Facebook fan page! You don’t have to live in Kitsap County, our awesome is like a really bad virus. Unstoppable. Boundless. Airborne. Yeah… I rock at analogies.

Grow the Life You Want – A Giveaway from Mindbloom!

My Tree I tried. I really did.

I resist resolutions like I resist chocolate. Of course, I always give in.

Actually, I didn’t make “official” resolutions this year, but I am taking steps… I’m becoming intentional. I’m taking deliberate (albeit small) actions… all in an effort to, well, to grow the life I want.

It just so happens that this effort is lining up with the new year — thus giving all these efforts a “resolutiony” feel, ya know?

See the above picture? It is the current picture of my tree at a new goal tracking website called Mindbloom. Also, this is the company with which my husband works. If you peek at Mindbloom, you will probably swoon and coo, cuz it’s so perty. My hubs did that.

Why aren’t all the leaves on my tree GREEN??? Because I am human, and I don’t make my bed everyday, and I don’t drink all the water I am supposed to each day. You see, these are just a couple of a few simple goals I have set for myself on Mindbloom. I didn’t make my bed today, but I did yesterday! The more goals I meet, the healthier my tree looks. If checking a task off one’s list isn’t enough motivation… maybe making one’s tree a healthy green is! I love watching my leaves get green. And if I just can’t make a certain goal fit my life, I can always prune!

Since I gots the hook-up, so do you! I have a little giveaway to offer! Mindbloom would like to offer a one year subscription (a $39 value!) to one person here! To enter leave a comment below sharing why you think goal tracking can be a valuable tool in goal setting/achieving. The contest will begin at 01/05/2010 and will end 1/11/2010.

Make sure that the e-mail address you leave is correct.

Rules:

  • No duplicate comments.
  • You may receive an additional entry by linking on twitter and leaving a link in the comments.
  • For a second chance tweet this contest – and in a separate comment leave the tweet’s URL :)
  • You may receive an additional entry by blogging about this contest and leaving a link in the comments.
  • Winners will be selected via random draw, and will notified by e-mail.

***But this site is not the only place to enter to win something special. Tuesday night (1/5/10) is #GNO on Twitter feat @mindbloom! We’re kickin’ this off with an old-fashioned Twitter party (and a BIG thank you and mushy kiss to Jyl at Mom it Forward)!!! Visit this link to find out how you can win a $100 Barnes and Noble gift card and a $100 Lucy.com gift card… among other things, courtesy of Mindbloom.com.

C’mon! Go to the party – I’m gonna be there! I’ll be the one with the glitter :)

Favorite Things Friday

These are a few of my fave-or-ite things…

1) I am excited about this new e-book:

Twitter-The-Smart-Girls-Guide-Tweet-handbook-Header1

It is by Alli Worthington… of the highly-accalimed BlissfullyDomestic.com and the Blissdom Conference. *sigh* I really want to go to there… Haven’t actually made the purchase, but… GONNA! Did I tell y’all that I met Alli at BlogHer and she sprinkled my glitter on her? She is just as delightful as one would imagine…

2) I went for a run on my birthday. You know the phrase “stop and smell the roses”? Well, all the roses are dead right now. So I stopped and admired a spiderweb:

Spider web

Do you see it sparkling? I love the Fall… and morning runs… and my birthday… Ironically, I hate spiders… but they make lovely homes…

3) Dessert tables. BE STILL MY HEART!!!!

Amy Atlas

I have no words. Well, I do. But really, words would fade the beauty of these dessert tables.

I want to go to there.

Favorite Things Friday!

*Butt before I begin… my butt still hurts. A LOT. Please click here for the “skinny”… heh:) Also, I am already working on new drawwrings because I tried out my new exercises by myself today and dern-near hanged mah bad self. #notkidding #cablemachinethingsareofthedevil

ketchupFavorite Things Friday!

I had this great post idea – anchored neatly with the finest of alliterative titles. I thought I was all “original”. Turns out the concept of “Favorite Things Friday” is as original as ketchup. Yay me.

Being the investigative “reporter” that I am, I Googled “Favorite Things Friday“. I just wanted to have proof. I wanted to bring my post before you and say, “Look at my originality! My creativity!” Instead I come to you with internet “ketchup”, if you will. Except for the fact that while standard and commonplace – KETCHUP IS AWESOME.

Aaaanyway.

I have been nursing a fever. A fever brought on by Etsy and I also suffer from a chronic illness called Graphic Tee Envy.

She said she liked my hair, I said I liked her shirt.

And I meant it:

The shirt

I went to the Family Force 5 concert in Seattle last Friday. Seattle was a stop on their “Dance RAWR Dance” Tour.

See why I love them? Dance + RAWR + Dance = my kinda awesome!

I made friends with a few natives young fans. I freaked a few out with my Twittering and self-portrait taking. But finally, I got one to warm up to me. She said she liked my hair. And I was all, “Yeah. I rock. I have cool hair. I like your shirt butIdon’tknowhowtogetmyripstoriplikethat.” And I swished my hair off my shoulder and did a Cher-like lip-lick.

It’s true.

Her friend gave me the skinny on a creating a good rip. I was all, “Right. Dude. Score.”

And then I took a pic of the shirt when they weren’t looking becuase I am a creepy middle-aged woman who goes to seedy bars for all-ages concerts.

The walls were sticky.

I Whrrl’d my story. The opening bands were unimpressive.

But when FF5 came on. *swoon* I wish I could show you the tambourine guy. I just… it was inspirational. *wipes tear*.

This One is for the Teachers, Yo.

If you have visited here recently, you may be aware of the fact I have joined 29 other bloggers and Office Max to help spread the word about a great program created to benefit teachers - A Day Made Better. You MUST take a few to watch this video. Also, get tissue:

Stinkin’ beautiful. Who doesn’t want to be a part of this? If you head over to my earlier post on this and leave a comment, you could win a $100 Office Max card for a teacher who is personal to you. If you are my personal friend of mine, you can go to any of the other 29 Max Moms in this program and nominate your choice there.

On a much more local level… Allie of No Time for Flashcards and I will be hosting a local event at my house! If you live around my parts – please come! Drop me an email or comment and I will get the invite to you!

It is going to be fun! Each participant is encouraged to bring something to add to our own box that we will be giving to a local teacher. We don’t know WHICH local teacher just yet. Event-goers will nominate a teacher and we will draw who will get a hopefully over-full box of school supplies… and perhaps some cash donations too?…

I want to thank some local businesses who are adding to the party favors and door prizes Office Max is contributing…

Dear Friends, Thank You!!!

I just want to thank you…

A couple of weeks ago I submitted my application in a dream that I might land a gig with Verity Credit Union as their Verity Mom. This gig offers legit pay, a few perks (a laptop, a Flip, and a reason to live) and a tremendous opportunity for my personal professional growth.

"professional"

I know. I wrote “professional”. Yes, we are all laughing. Jenny + “professional” = Whut the whut?

I Went to BlogHer and… Shazam! I Luvz Me My Onlinez Peeps!

Oh dear. This is a long one…. Practically a thesis. Maybe I should change the title to BlogHer 09 Thesis and Whatnot of all Silliness and Ramblings of Great Proportion. Or not.

I was gonna do a “BlogHer – The Friday” post. Meh. Who wants a day-by-day run down? I just want to show you how fabulous life becomes when online babes friends get to meet each other IRL (in. real. life.) At BlogHer, not only did I get to meet people I have grown to admire, adore and, yes… even LOVE. I also MET people at BlogHer who I now admire, adore, and even… LOVE.

I fell fast and hard for some of these people…

In no order of importance, but probably in order of how this pics loaded from my iPhone into iPhoto, or however they landed on my desktop as I stalked the BlogHer pics on the Flickr…

Chris, Kim (3 Giraffes) and Sizzle Says… gettin’ texty with it whilst we wait for our ride to the Sheraton in Downtown Chicago.
