It is the last day of the year!

Happy last day of the year-ness to you! I was really struggling with what to post today. It is a very special day… the last of 2008… my last day of the Blog 365 challenge… Which I successfully completed thankyouverymuch. Yet I still wonder if I have been able to really show you who I am(s). I just hate to think that we have spent so much time together and I held back even one small ounce. I want to be open and honest… I want to be sure I wrap this wonderful year up with the perfect post.

Who… or what is this blog about? Yes… Me. And what kind of blogger would I be if I didn’t give you as much of me as I possibly could? Batten down the hatches people… for today you get to meet My best friend. We had a wonderful time together yesterday. We took lots and lots and lots of pictures TOGETHER. I want to share them with you. My BFF is vibrant. She is beautiful. She is smart and witty and loads of fun to be around…. She makes the world a better place… Because we look so much alike, I should tell you, she’s the one on the left.

Can I Get a Whutwhut?!

So. My kids and Lisa’s kids were tearin’ up around the house last night. At dinner my 6-year-old, Olivia started callin’ out her homies… “Can I get a whutwhut?” And the other 4 holla’d back… “Whutwhut!” And I was all… I gotta get these kids on tape… except I don’t know how to just voice record so I popped open iMovie and tried to keep the kids out of the frame so as to protect their identities and this is what was captured:

I feel like I need to defend myself… my kids do not listen to that “Whutwhut” song. I do, but I am a bit of a homegirl (I mean, check out my arm pump people… I am an ANIMAL!)… The “whutwhut” actually came from some influence on the Disney channel, and I feel enough shame just from that. But what was funniest to me was the fact that the kids sounded like the “MineMineMine” seagulls in Finding Nemo (found in the first 25 seconds of the following video):

So, in essence, I spent the night with A Flock of Seagulls last night. Back in the 80’s had I started THAT rumor, I’d have been one popular girl…

Make Me Laugh Monday – Kids & The Christmas Story

It’s Make Me Laugh Monday! If you would like to join in, add your name and link to your specific funny post in the Mr. Linky at the end of this post. Feel free to use the MMLM graphic in your post, and be sure to link back to this specific post. Not to bore you with mundane details, but if there is questionable video or audio content, please give a bit of warning in your post so those of us with little ones underfoot can preserve their innocence :) Thanks so much. Now, for laughter — I have 2 things to share today:

*****

I volunteered to help out with the children’s choir at church – for their Christmas performance. We had rehearsal yesterday. There is this adorable little girl in the choir… I think she is in kindergarten… the smallest child in the choir. She was to lead the group offstage at the end of the performance. I kept saying, “Now ‘YOU, HONEY’ go this way…”. I could not remember her name. I finally broke down:

Me (bending to reach her eye-level): Honey. I am so sorry, but I can’t remember your name…

Little girl: Wolf

Me, to this very adorable, very sweet, very girly little girl: I’m sorry. What?

Adorable little girl: Wolf

Me, stuttering: Did you?… I… uh… What???

Blog 365, Type-A Mom and StumbleUpon

I am totally shooting for SEO with that title…

Only 3 more days left of the Blog 365 challenge… I made the decision to join this challenge was called-out by my friend Jen about this time last year… I made a long list of things to write about. The original list would have given me about 40 days of writing.

I think I only made it through half that list. I have gotten so distracted… by great links, new friends, myself, vlogging, search resultsMake Me Laugh Mondays (that’s tomorrow – don’t forget to play tomorrow and link to your funny post here!) and my adult-onset ADHD has really intensified! Whoa! Who knew I’d have MORE than enough content to play with. There were days I posted twice. TWICE. It seems that the more I wrote… the more there was to write, to share, to digress from, to twist… I used to enter a day with a mindset of “survival”, I now enter my day with a mindset of “how can I write about what I just experienced?”. Bloggers, I know you know exactly what I mean.

I’ve heard the phrase, “Be nice or I’ll blog about you” (I actually have a shirt with that saying… got it as swag from BlogHer ‘08), but I think it’s more than that — “Be nice to me AND I’ll blog about you”, heck… just “Be, and I’ll blog about you.” I don’t discriminate… be you child, adult, animal or donut. All is fair game in blogs and social media. When a girl needs content, a girl finds content.

I am relieved to be nearly done with this  365 “test”… On the other hand, I kinda want to keep going. On the other hand, I kind of need a break. On the other hand, I still have 4 or 5 awards to hand out… and I think I want the start of 2009 to be all about appreciating my people… my friends who have touched my life and filled it up. I feel like an octopus with all these “other hands” I have right now.

I also want a cookie. But I digress… Continue reading ‘Blog 365, Type-A Mom and StumbleUpon’

Goal Setting

I know. Goal setting, goal schmetting. Slap me in the face. That’s what I felt like doing when some guy on Twitter asked on Christmas Day, “What gifts are you giving for Valentine’s Day?” *blank stare*

Right now we are all still sugaring-down, rubbin’ our bellees and moaning about how tight our jeans are… yes? (If not, then I suspect you have no heart… Just sayin’.) But some are also pondering those pesky resolutions that creep up this time of year. This post is not so much a New Years Resolution post, though… it’s about the fact that I think I have finally set a training goal for 2009… But before I tell you about that goal, let’s watch a video that will surely motivate you to get moving…

Oh. I must have embeded the wrong code… my bad! Anywho. Loo makes some very good points. I wonder if we could hit-up the ice cream truck sometime… Loo — my treat :)

I have been waffling over the last few months whether to commit to a full marathon or a triathlon with a bit more length (half-iron)… I want to accomplish both someday, but am coming to accept the reality I will not be able to  both in one season… due to limits in time and trying to stay injury-free.

My 1000th Post, that’s right.

Dear Friends, family, lurkers… My Public,

I want to thank your for your comments. Your hits, your visits, your searches, your never-ending devotion. I adore you. I love you. I. Need. You. I could never have made it to my 1000th post without YOU. It has taken nearly 5 years to make it to this milestone, and I want you to know… I know. But I wonder, do you? Know? Do you really know Me? I wonder… after nearly five long years of run-ons, tangents, dangling participles, comma-obsessiveness, the abuse of exclamation points, and a myriad of other grammatical atrocities… if somewhere along the way we’ve missed what this blog is all about….

M to the E.

…And if you don’t know me by now… a special multimedia presentation – from ME to YOU:

Sadly, this can be an especially difficult time for our/my friends and neighbors of the world… maybe even you – old friend or first-time visitor… For those coping with grief or loss or financial struggle or broken relationships or… you are on my heart. Dear friends, I will not name you here, but as I pray today — know I love you and am asking for comfort and peace for you this moment, last night as I went to sleep and throughout today. My heart aches and longs for each of you to be spared of your struggles. May God’s grace fill you up today. Big, big hugs to you.

Love, Jenny

A scissor attack, Santa letters and a coffee sleeve.

So. Today. I was hummin’ along, clip, clip, clippin’ down the big parts offa the little branch things from a bundle of non-organic *shame* grapes, and out of NO. FLIPPIN’. WHERE. the scissors ATTACKED my poor, cute, innocent little finger tip. Now, I am left typing without my left ring finger! You have no idea how devoted I am…  I am down A WHOLE FINGER and yet I post. For you. Just look at the carnage!

The scissors in question did not make bail… and will probably be banished to 4 rounds in an extra hot dishwasher – for punishment as well as disinfectation. That’s my new word — disinfectation. I know. I’ll submit it to Webster’s after the New Year.

The kids wrote Santa notes to place next to the cookie plate tonight:

Note: Joel was born in 1999. The boy knows how to work an angle.

But will she love her ONE present from Santa?

*****

I mentioned in an earlier post that I recently attended a cookie exchange. I just have to share what Nikki made… She MADE… SEWED… *turning green with skillz envy* the most desperately adorable coffee sleeves EVER! Eh-Vah! She package up her little cookies, popped them in a paper coffee cup, slipped on the homemade sleeve and tied the cuteness up with clear cellophane and fun ribbon. Here’s that sleeve:

I. Know. I am so lucky to be friends with such a gifted woman.

*****

Lastly, don’t forget to follow Santa on Norad tonight! Peace, love and all the stuff that peace and love are made of… to you and your families… Merry Christmas :)

I am such a hostess…

even when it comes to my newest online friends. I wish I could say the following was my idea, but originality has never been my forte’… Awesome-ocity, yes… originality, notsomuch. Recently I acquired 2 new followers on Twitter… @neoblog and @mrsNeO. I checked ‘em out and made the educated decision to follow them back. And you know what they did? Soon after, I received direct messages from them telling me they made a Twitter welcome video!

How about THEM apples, ehhh???  It just so happens I have recently developed quite a relationship with the fine art of video. So, naturally…. I also have made MY OWN Twitter Welcome video! Aaaaaand have greeted 2 new followers already! You want to see it? Wanna, wanna? It’s short — 23 seconds long. The sound is pretty sub-subpar, but I did happen to have my wavy hair “on”… maybe the hair absorbed all the sound before it got to the mic… But(t) the still for the video on You Tube is just awful. If you hurry up and click my face won’t be so distorted. Hurry, before I break your screen!

Not on Twitter? Why not? Come, follow me *swings pocket watch in pendulum manner*… I’ll follow you back… because isn’t that something you’ve always dreamed of… an online stalker obsessed with glitter and the power of her own Awesome? *still swinging pocket watch*

Make Me Laugh Monday – I love Jesus but I drink a little.

I am posting this a little late. I missed my 12 a.m. posting cuzza I got a belly ache & the shivvvvvers last night and collapsed into bed. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Makes me wonder if all that smoked salmon dip and bottle of wine didn’t agree with me so much… It has me wondering if I am a good decision-maker afterall…

Aaaaanywho. And THEN, this morning, I dove into iChat with my friend Casey and then our kids iChatted until the laptop battery died… Thank you for your patience. I suggest you take a seat… or bookmark this for when you have 5 or so minutes to giggle with Ellen DeGeneres as she chats with Glady’s… It. Is. Adorable. At one point she says, “I love Jesus but I drink a little.” I think it would be awesome to spend Christmas with Gladys… and wine… at her house… Thank you Aunt Jame for alerting me to this clip!
