Ya’ll heard of the newest workout dance craze - ZUMBA? Oh wait, it’s only new here… a mere technicality… It’s a Salsa-esque dance/aerobic class. My gym just started offering it. I resisted at first because I really only like to dance when it’s dark and the reality that others perceive is altered - a lot. Ya know, so even the moves of a big purple dinosaur could pass for the chillin’ moves of Vanilla Ice if the conditions are…. Just. Right. I have not been introduced to others as the best dancer in Kitsap County (OK, once) fer nuthin’. I’m serious.
I decided to give the class a try this a.m. My brave mother and sister came along. I am so proud to call them family. We swizzled and cha-cha’d and step-double-ha-ho-yipped all around a floor that usually hosts a boring ‘ol step class.
A gal I have come to know and adore was there too! She may not know I have a crush on her though. Why the crush? She sings in a band, that’s why! She also rocks the tambourine, and in case I haven’t mentioned I also seriously ROCK the tambourine (I confess, it’s air-tambourine, but… anyway…). She and I have so much in common! BFF!! 2 cute + 2 be = 4gotten!!!
I hope no one tells her about my blog.
So, I got to “Zumba” next to my local real-life-rock-star-friend… singer and tambourine vixen of the local band One Shot Molly. Oooh - check ‘em out!
Still curious about Zumba? Here’s a video. There are many videos out there and I chose this particular one because of the older gentleman in the black shirt (look for him at seconds 9-12). I think he and I could do some serious Zumba damage…

Keep up-to-date on the insane, the insightful, and the whatever…

I just did this last week…in front of a large mirror…with many, many people that knew what they were doing.
I did not.
It was not pretty.
But I loved it! And that is now my new workout for my Tweightloss Challenge.
Thanks for sharing - Never knew this even existed.
The dancers look great the audience looks like a Richard Simmons video gone wrong ;)
Looks like so much fun but I think I will stick with Pole dancing..
Cheers
Cathy

yeah, those people looked hot doing it. and you, I’m sure looked great. And I have seen you dance…you are just fine!
But I for one will have to lose about half my body weight before I attempt such a thing. All that bouncing…my “girls” would bounce up and knock me out!
It’s fun to watch, but I am not coordinated enough to even think about attempting it let alone ACTUALLY trying it. I barely get through Turbo Jam or Tae Bo without doing myself bodily injury.
You can do this? You are my coordinated hero! What a kickin workout too…made me tired just watching the video. Your mom and sister are troopers!
That looks like so much fun!!!!!! I’ve got to find someplace I can Zumba around here!
Thanks for the sweet comment you left me. You hit it right on the head..I cried so hard typing that post.

I visit your blog frequently..you are so funny..and you have fabulous writing skills:)
Have a great weekend!
You should know that after reading this post and watching the video, I immediately searched for the DVD. I can not wait to Zumba! Weee!
Thanks for your comment regarding the bee sting! Hubby used Benedryl and it helped but knocked him out too. We got final revenge today. He wouldn’t let me take a picture but he went out last night in a full body snow suit, with hat and scarf around his face and plastic taped over his eyes and gloves. It was funny, he sprayed the nest with Raid and this morning got to stomp the living daylights out of the nest. Ahhh, sweet revenge, now we can enjoy our backyard again.
I agree with dumblond, about the girls! But it does look interesting, I love aerobics that don’t feel like exercise but have some rhythm and dance to it. Fun!
Ha!
This seems like it would be a cake walk for you girl!
(I’ve seen you shake your bon-bons)
Great exercise for sure … keep us posted on your progress.
Oh yeah, and if your Ma-ma can keep up … ^5 to her =)
What fun! I have absolutely no coordination nor rhythm (I get off beat clapping my hands). However, in the comfort of my own home, where my dancing rules, I could get into this!
Can’t wait to get my knee back under me….I will give you a run for your money for ‘THAT GENTLEMAN’ in the 9 - 12 second segement in the black shirt! He and I look like we could really get down to the Zumba!!!!!
Ha! You just think I’m OLD!!!!!
Love ya!
Aunt Robin
Oh, Yeah…I gotta find one of these classes here, though…..???? Do ya think they have one in the MULE CAPITAL of the good ‘ole US of A?????
I had no idea this even existed. I wanna try it, although I’m sure I would look like a total and complete idiot. I own a dance workout video and basically I just jump around and pretend to dance along with the hot lycra clad girls.
