Confession - My Nose

I want a ring in it. No, not “tribal”, but just a small shiny thing. Small. Really tiny, but sparkly.

I worry about what the neighbors would think, what my friends who are parents of teenagers would think, what the new mommies I am making friends with would think, what the pastors would think, what the older women I admire and consider mentors would think…

Why do I want one? I’m not even really sure. I think they are cute and fun and daring. I have not met one little nose stud I have not admired.

I have elements of cuteness and funness, but daring… not so much. I follow rules, whether stated or implied. In my life, a nose ring is an implied “no”.

One time, in high school… I got one of those magnetic studs and put it in my nose (I suppose I have always had interest, just not nerve, nor - in this instance, sense)… Yeah. The magnet part got stuck up my nose and I had to leave class to blow it out - REALLY hard.

I know I don’t want a magnetic nose ring.

Also, I am not a “I’m gonna do what I gotta do for me”, kind of gal. So… to me, others matter. Not so much in the little things… but more the big things. Is this a big thing or a little thing? I just don’t know! Am I thinking too much? That’s funny. The word “thinking” implies one has a brain, and me - brain… again - not so much.

Then there’s my husband. He  is all over it. LUUUUUVS the idea.

I still don’t know why am actually struggling over this. Maybe it’s because, unlike when I was 16 - I actually have a choice now. I have power. I can choose to do it or not to do it. Wow.

Girl - just do it! Nose rings today are not the same as they used to be. I think they can be very nice - did you know I came THIS close to getting one a few years back - I love them. My job held me back though - wasn’t sure if I would be taken seriously with a little bling in my nose…heh, come to find out, they didn’t always take me seriously anyways…so I should have! I did go with the ole navel piercing in the before kids era - that was fun - a bit painful…but very fun!

As for the parents…they can always say, “Well, she is an adult and when you are an adult, you can too!”

As for the new moms you meet…you might just inspire them to do something different too.

As for the pastor? Yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if he secretly wished L would get one too. LOL.

I recently got my nose pierced. The weekend of my 29th birthday. I put it off for about 12 years for the same reasons you stated. I wish I had not. I have had it for six months now and no regrets. There are clear retainers you can put in if it becomes necessary to hide it. In six months, I haven’t come across one, though.
I have a shop recommendation for you. It’s in Seattle. They are the best in the state. E-mail me if you’re interested. :)

I think you should definitely be daring! Besides, you’re so stinkin’ cute (nice new pic on twitter!)…good nose for it. And if you don’t like it…take it out. End of story.

Hmm, I’ve already given up on my tattoo idea, but you’re starting to make me think that this would be a good alternative…

I’ve seen someone get her nose pierced and it obviously hurts quite a bit, but not for too long. I say go for it!

I say if Paul likes the idea you should do it. Three of our preschool mommies have little nose studs and no one has ever said anything about it (and believe me, those bitches would!) I could investigate piercing parlors in San Fran if you’d like….

Go for it!!! It’s not like you are getting a gigantic gold ring to hang from you nostrils. It’s a cute and sensible little sparkler.

I have always wanted one but am a bit timid when it comes to needles. This also goes for the SMALL tattoo I want to get.(something to represent my three little sisters)

BTW, totally laughed after reading the end of Michele’s comment!

Go for it! And we can all live vicariously thru you! I think a little sparkle would be cool. I’m toying with the idea of getting the top of my ear pierced - you know, the cartilidge area. And I want a tattoo, too, but haven’t gotten brave enough yet. Or decided what to get or where to get it! Got any ideas??

It’s totally up to you. If you feel good about it and it’s not something you would feel bad explaining to the kids…do it.

Nose piercing?!?! Ewww Jenny. Isn’t that for girls that are trashy? I mean.. what would JC do? You are a mother of three lovely children! What would they think? And have you seen the seedy places that do this type of “body art?” Probably some guys named Rolando and Jolando. Wait a minute…that was their name. Ok… for all y’alls that think I am for real with the nose piercing smack down…think again! Jen and I did the buddy system today and we both have lovely little twinkles on our shnoz’s now. We are so hot, when we blow are noses now….nothing but glitter comes out.
    Peace.

Wait a minute. So you did it? And you didn’t share a picture? Hmpf.

You did it?!?!? I wanna see!! Did it hurt??

  12. 12 Tasia

  13. 13 jenny

OK, OK! I give. It’s true! I’m off to wwrtie a brief post, which will hopefully be soon followed by a picture :)

You did it?! Oh my goodness. I’m slightly envious. Wishing I had kept mine in to see their revival in motherhood! I can’t go back now. It’s already been done. Always do the daring… always!
