The last time I won something REAL

was in, like 8th grade. I submitted (via my teacher) a written essay about air love gym socks something to the local Rotary Soroptomists someone. I’m sure it was impressive and inspiring and under 150 words. I got first place and won eight whole dollars. Now back in 1987, that was big. BIG. You know how many Big Gulps and Lemon Heads 8 $mackers would buy? Seriously.

In addition to my major cash prize, I was treated to a Winner’s Breakfast. At the restaurant they awarded me (along with the second and third place losers winners) a certificate and our cash. A photo was snapped and was published along with our essays in the local Herald Scope Recorder paper. Picture it:

…a golden first place smile, lovely layered, feathered hair, and glasses the size of Mount Rushmore sitting on my nose.

8th grade is such a lovely season of life for all young girls…

Flash forward to 2008. It has been 21 years in the making, but it has happened. I’ve won something again. Thank you, thank you… But please, please… hold your applause until the end.

True, it is something I won because I nominated myself. I am not above such things. Watch your back.

I won the Highly Esteemed Housewife Award from mommasaid.net! *two snaps up in a circle*

I want to thank Jen Singer at mommasaid for giving me the opportunity to nominate myself, and for taking the time to read my story of humiliation and guilt. I realize I overuse commas,,, and I realize I prolly could kinda not be so darn-stinkin’ Wordy Worderson, but… I also want to thank the folks over at Mitetees for the cool prize - way cooler than 8 bucks. WAY.

I want to thank The Academy…
