No Room for Ego.

You see, being a mother of young children, especially, a 2-year-old… leaves little space in my life for privacy, composure, class or… ego.

There is no ego when one is asked, “Mama poo-poo in the shower?” (By the way, the answer is a booming, “NO!”… grody, ewww.)

There is no privacy when one is asked from across the room, “Mama, you wearing undies?” (This time, the answer was “Yes.”)

There is no hope for class when one is greeted with, “Mama! Yook! A-baby is pickin’ a-my nose!” (Nice.)

There is no hope for composure when carrying my 2-year-old under my arm like a football - kicking and screaming - because the 10 minutes looking at the crabs at the market was not the LIFETIME she wanted to spend with them. Lemme tell ya - there were 120 billion ugly crabs, and if she were Miss Pink Fluffy Ruler of All, each one would have been appointed a special name…

And then last night… Charlie and his scrawny Christmas tree lit up the TV set… Lucy insisted on a blanket as we snuggled as tightly as ever… I listened to her running commentary on the funny doggy, and the girl named Yucy (Lucy) just like her!… I could feel her giggles as the characters danced their silly jigs and somehow - those things that might spare my “reputation” are just not all that important.

Snow and Preschool Beauty Escapades

Our driveway

The driveway…

Roll that snow

A future snowman…

Frosty! Is that you?!

Frosty, could that really be you?

Even the littlest amount of snow

Yay! A snow angel!

Our backyard

The view from my room…

Snowed

The back of the house from the back…

That Enough Mama?

“Is that enough, Mama?” Ummm… yeah…

Yook, Mama!

“Yook Mama! I did it!” …and I’m 2!

Hope

She’s sweet. She’s strong. She’s 3 and has been in the hospital (not 1 day at home) for over 4 months. Read about her long journey with HLHS (Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome) here. She really needs prayer for healing (especially lungs)… So that soon she can go home and play with her big brother and sister…  so she can drink juice at her kitchen table… so she can open Christmas presents in her living room… so she can experience the fullness of “being 3″…

Of course, since I’m a mommy, my heart just aches for Maddie’s Mommy, Cindy. What a heavy burden to not only see your baby struggle so desperately, but to have 2 healthy children who need you too… So pray for Maddie’s Mom and and her Daddy - Cindy and Dave. Pray for her doctors… be creative, miracles have happened…

We’re going on bear hunt…

We’re going to catch a big one. What a beautiful day. We’re not scared…

Uh-oh! Snow! White, white snow (for hours and hours)! We can’t drive over it (to pick up Daddy from the ferry). We can’t drive through it (to pick up Daddy from the ferry). Oh-no! We have to take advantage of the very kind (and superiorly smarter people) who will push our new van (sans 4WD) to the top of the hill blanketed in the white, white snow!

**These very kind people (who came out to sled on the hill, not aid dumb-decision-makers such as myself) pushed the van as I expertly turned the wheel left, then right, then left, then right, then left, then right (and so on and so forth etc., etc., etc…). Who knew turning the steering wheel so much and so deliberately could cause ones abs to nearly seize (and sweat glands to fully engage)? Now you know too… I am so bringing my snowy-hill heroes some cookies. Now, back to the story…**

We’re going on a home hunt, we’re heading downhill now, what a treacherous road, we’re not scared. I’ll keep in low gear, while we’re on the downhill. And hope to make it up, up… … …  no…. nnnnnot quite. With Livi in her sparkly pumps, and Lucy in her Easter shoes, we’ll hop, hop, and squish the last 50 feet to our warm house.  Quick! Into the house. Close the door. Flip the switch to the fireplace (I know, I know - “cheaters”). Under a warm blanket… WE’RE NOT GOING ON A BEAR HUNT AGAIN!

And now I will end my very poor twist on one of the most wonderful children’s books…ever. Um, have committed plagiarism?

Now, it’s ime to bake some cookies and hope Direct TV comes back online in time to watch SNL tonight…
