I get to wear the Finisher shirt!

A little after 9:30 this morning, Katie and I crossed the finish line of the 2007 Seattle Marathon (ahem, half-marathon). It was the best possible November morning in Seattle… the low 40’s and clear. It was beautiful, and I even wore my sunglasses for awhile!

I mentioned to Katie a little before we set our feet a-runnin’ that my dream would be to run it in under 2 hours. We decided we could at least try… and the pace of our first 6 miles fed that hope - 9 minute miles! Somewhere between 6 and 8 miles we lost a couple of minutes due to a pretty good series of hills, but we made up much of it by mile 10.

I know, just cut to the chase Jenny (haha, chase, like chasing the finish… haha…)! We finished in 2 hours and 52 seconds. That works out to a 9 minute 14 second mile (we were shooting for a 9 minute and 8 second mile). That’s not so bad! I keep sayin’ the .1 of the 13.1 is the hardest part of the run, and clearly it is. If it wasn’t for that .1, then we’d have made it right under the 2 hour mark. One tenth of a mile, *snicker* why is that so dog-gone important anyway…

I can’t forget Ellie! I need to give props to Ellie, Katie’s daughter… she finished in just over 1 hour and 46 minutes. Awesome job girl!

Way to go! I just ran my first race last month (a 15K) and look forward to another. There’s just something about being surrounded by all those people suffering toward the same goal, huh? Keep it up, and enjoy some ice cream!
