It’s like not having pockets.

We’ve all been there… you’re in a situation where you don’t know what to do with your arms. Folding them feels too guarded, letting them hang senselsly feels too vunerable… Fold, hang, fold, hang, pace, pace, fold, hang… If only I had worn pants that had pockets!

That’s how I feel about my lips now that barbed wire lines my pearly whites. I don’t know what to do with my lips! Up? Down? Around? Over? Where do I put my lips?

    Hi Jenny,
Trust me, your lips will figure out where to go. I remember looking at my lips thinking it looked like I had botox - they were just a little more plump looking (from the metal and ceramic pushing them out of place). So enjoy the side benefit of botoxed lips for a year or two. Any soreness? Keep us posted. If at the very minimum, you have just added about couple hundred blog entries regarding the adventure that is braces - with the benefit of straight teeth after! Woohoo!
Good Luck! Enjoy picking your colors - it’s fun to match them with the seasons!

Until you get accustomed to braces I recommend WAX and lots of it!
As Lisa just mentioned, it is quite fun to match your bands to the seasons. Katie can probably tell you of my adventures in holiday decorating. I got REALLY into the holiday spirit those two years! Then there was the week with glow in the dark bands. E & B had a blast taking turns holding a flashlight up to my teeth…
(The assistant was a close family friend and would not only change my bands as often as I wanted at home but also let me special order from the catalog)
    Good Luck with your braces!!!

Ohhh, you were so lucky, changing bands whenever you wanted, ordering special from a catalog - the dreams of a girl with wires on her teeth. The hard thing about us “regular folks” (haha) is that you have to wear the St. Patricks day colors into April. Oh well.

I ditto the wax. Wax will be your friend. I also used alot of those plastic toothpick thingy’s that have a little end that looks like a chimney sweeper on one end. There will be times you wish you had an actual chimney sweeper to clean all the crud in your teeth.
    Have fun!
    Lisa
