That’s Better…

I was much more pleased with my times at the Danskin.

I did make a few changes from the last time - like drinking a whole lotta water the day before. AND wearing shorts for biking and running instead of capris, and not losing my water bottle at the beginnning of the bike leg, and getting coffee before the race, and eating more carbs, and getting in many more electrolytes before and during the race, and taking the transitions a bit easier (let my body catch it’s breath a bit), and filling up my tires so they weren’t 1/4 flat, and walking up the steep hill instead of killing myself trying to go hard the entire distance, and I didn’t have a glitch with my swim suit, and I got more sleep the night before too…

This time, I held the cold chills off until the last 1.5 miles of the run. I only felt like dying/vomitting the last .1 of the run. I had cramps for just a short time, and never a stomach ache. My time was cut by nearly 8.5 minutes from the Luna!
Here are the times recorded for number 3048:

Swim (1/2 mile): 14:32 (135/3965)
1st Transition: 5:51
Bike (12 miles): 45:24 (16.3 mph and 1881/3965)
2nd Transition: 3:05
Run/Exaggerated Walk (3.1 miles): 29:51 (pace of 9:37 and 1037/3965)
Overall Time: 1:38:45 (981 of 3965)

Oh, number 3048 - that’s me :)

I feel like

I’ve been beating on the tops of my legs with a billy club.

I am so sore! I don’t know if it’s due to the new house and having stairs for the first time ever, or that the few times I’ve run since the Luna I’ve really tried to push myself.

Either way, I ran an 8:55 mile today (compared to 12 minutes just weeks ago). Just one mile though. Couldn’t have maintained it for much longer (heavens no), but it happened. The whole time I gasped for air and I thought, “How can a real human actually maintain this pace, how can anyone possibly maintain this pace???? *gasp, gasp, gasp*” I stopped after that mile, why mess with success? I swam a half-mile just before the run and needed to test my suit to see if would be comfortable to run in. It’ll do. Now, only 4 more days until my next brush with death.

1 down, 1 to go…

I’m home and only a little sore.I thought the run would kill me, but my friend Katie was “the wind beneath my wings” as we bounced our way to the finish. Here are my splits, the drama to follow (like the feeling that during the run I would indeed die) in a later post…

Swim (1/2 mile): 16:20
1st Transition: 4:19
Bike (12 miles): 49:54
2nd Transition: 2:55
Run/Exaggerated Walk (3.1 miles): 33:44
Overall Time: 1:47:13

2 weeks to the next triathlon. I wonder if I can cut 9:54 off my bike and 3:44 off my run by then… Maybe I should keep focusing on not dying during the run instead… :)

By the way, thank you all for your comments full of encouragement and support. It truly fuels me and helps me push forward and keep working toward this goal.

Gonna give it a Tri…

This is my last training installment for this event…

With the craziness of moving, I still managed to get a bit of training in last week… and this week I spent a half hour in each event. I don’t have time to log it, but I did what I could :)
It’s do or die time - literally :) Pray for me, and my girlfriend and her daughter!!!
