If I Look on the Bright Side….

All the piles of clothes that are consuming my bedroom are clean.

Additionally, the fact that my son can’t find clean undies in the morning shows me he is seeking out clean underwear daily. I must be doing something right by him.

Did you know…

Enough sleep helps weight loss If you’re trying to lose weight, you may want to hit the hay a little early tonight. A new study finds that women who get less than five hours of sleep a night gain more weight than people who sleep a solid seven hours. Researchers believe not getting enough sleep may affect your metabolism and cut down on the number of calories you burn at rest.

It looks like I’m tying my own noose… I get up and squash my metabolism but I boost it by exercising too. Maybe I’m herding cats here… I am so unmotivated…

Little Fart

Giggling Olivia, on zerberting her sister’s belly:

“I farted Lucy’s belly.”

Yeah, “fart” is not the dreamiest thing my beloved daughter could speak, but it sure was cute… By the way, how the heck is “zerbert” spelled???

Training Wrap-Up: Week 9

So, how’d we do this week…

Worked out 4 of the 5 days specified,

Swam for 85 minutes of 40 minutes suggested (completed 1/2 mile in under 20 minutes)
Biked 90 minutes of 105 minutes - hills, hills, hills!
Jogged for 0 minutes of 65 minutes suggested
2 weight classes

This was actually an easy week - 2 rest days! However, I am not feeling so motivated. So not motivated. Not motivated. I want to sleep. I don’t want to wake up early, I dont’ want to make these workouts fit into my days. The kicker is, I am just as tired whether I work out or not. My house is messier if I do, and the demands outside my home don’t get tended to if I work out.

I am so desperately behind - chores, bookkeeping for our home and business, we’ll be moving soon, needing to get this place ready to rent, and then it’s summer - when do we get to enjoy it? I clocked my mileage over a 2 day period and I clocked 150 miles. 150.

I’m grumpy and mean to my kids. Shouldn’t all my cranky be all sweated out? I am so unmotivated. Did I mention that? Oh, and how can a person work so hard and not really lose any weight after a month? Talk about not feeling motivated… and I’m supposed to get up at 5:30 in the mornin’ and swim - good thing my friend is picking me up and it’s too late to call and bail!

Gimme some sugar, I need to drown my frustration in simple carbs… Bring it on Week 8…

Training Wrap-Up: Week 10

Week 10 has passed, and only 9 weeks to go! Let’s see how I did in week 10…

Worked out 4 of the 6 days specified…

Swam for 90 minutes of 80 minutes suggested

Biked 0 minutes of 195 minutes
Jogged for 170 minutes of 125 minutes suggested

Obviously, I need to step-up on the biking portion of my training. Biking has always been my weakest. I finally got my bike tuned up, so I am not dependent on the stationary bikes at the gym (which I dislike very much). I even found my helmet, so I can’t use that as an excuse either! I am also trying to add 2 Rep Reebok classes a week - to focus on toning in addtion to the endurance training. Last week, I made it to 2 classes, but only stayed for 1. Olivia decided she couldn’t live without me and wouldn’t stay in the “Little Lifters” babysitting room…

On the plan for this week - I hope to time each distance and see my improvement by the time the event comes…

Gliding Discs

I tried these lil’ stinkers at the gym the other day. The instructor decided we’d use them instead of doing regular ab work (like traditional crunches).
Here’s my review:

We were instructed to get in the “up” part push-up position - on our toes. For the record, I do my push-ups on my knees - strike one! Our toes were each on a disc. We had to glide one leg up, then back, then the other. As if that was not challenging enough - we had to do both legs - at the same time! That’s not the worst -  then there was this one leg to the side and cross it under and then back thing.

Oh. My. Stinkin’. Heck. !!!!!!!!!! Holy wall of mirrors Batman! Most in the class looked as dumb as me, so I didn’t feel out of place. Even “Mr. I look like Billy Banks and teach kick boxing at another gym” looked like he was gettin’ a good butt kicking. He didn’t intimidate me as much after that… No one was able to fully accomplish one full set (except for our teeny-tiny dynamo instructor).

The discs: Kicked. Our. Wanna. Be. Little. Boo-tay’s!

That evening - I felt fine. I thought, “Sheesh, what was all the hype about those gliders?” Then I woke up the next morning. Throughout the day I would stand before my mirror and inspect my sides for bruising. Surely I had bruises! Then the NEXT morning came. A hospital bed might have been nice. The day after the day after - that’s the day to watch out for… It has now been 3 days, the pain is subsiding, and still no visible bruising. Imagine that.

After all that, I find myself looking online to purchase those evil little discs! I have never been well-known for my sensible nature…
