…A moment to remember the vitims of the tsunami last week. I pray that the world communities will keep compassion in our hearts for the people and countries that were hit. It is shocking… unbelievable… It hardly seems real sitting on my comfortable couch at home.
A few days before Christmas I recalled that on Christmas Eve many years back (maybe 6 or 7) I went on a ride-along with my sister-in-law. She was a police officer is a rough part of a nearby city. Some calls came in, but there was one that will always stay in my memory. The call was for a domestic dipsute. We arrived, and the woman was at a neighbors home, beatten badly - jaw broken. I remember wanting to hug her and comfort her. I couldn\’t believe this happening on Christmas Eve.
Fast forward to the day after Christmas 2004, and though the circumstances and consequences are profoundly different, I am reminded to be thankful. I am reminded that so many horrible things happen every day, and I need to remember how blessed I am — how blessed my family is, despite the \”difficulties\” I feel we face at times.
I am thankful for the blessings in my life. I pray for the families in the tsunami-stricken countries — for the health of the survivors — for their hearts to be comforted in this tragic time of loss — for aid to flow from the world community, in the form of helping hands, money, and compassion… I pray I can know the best way I can help…
